My morning rituals

Hi!

Surely it won’t surprise you that, like most of you, I didn’t like mornings. I didn’t just dislike them, to put it mildly, I considered them a punishment of fate. How could one leave the comfortable bed, where it’s warm in winter and simply cozy in summer?

My mornings were a huge chaos, getting up at the last alarm, which resulted in quickly gulping down some coffee, often not finishing it. Makeup, you know how it is – just a quick touch-up around the eyes, and of course, the eternal crying and the magical sentence that every one of us has uttered at least once: „I have nothing to wear.” And time flies by.

That was me back when I had to commute to work at a specific time, and I was completely unaware of the mistakes I was making and how I did everything without thinking, just to get it done – „as long as it’s done” was my favorite phrase.

Organization was never my strong suit, I believed it wouldn’t work, especially for me – a mistake, now I know that. Anger at myself and repeating the phrase to myself in the evenings, „I’ll wake up earlier tomorrow,” didn’t work. I kept repeating the same mistakes.

How did it happen that today I wake up at 5:00-5:30, full of energy for life, smiling, and organized for the whole day?

It’s not about motivation because I don’t believe in it. And probably with these words, I’ll shatter your worldview on the statement „find motivation within yourself,” but…

Forget about motivation, it’s a myth. I don’t know when we all convinced ourselves that in order to change, we have to feel enthusiasm or motivation to take action. That’s complete nonsense. When it’s time to take matters into your own hands, you won’t feel motivated. On the contrary, you won’t feel like doing anything. It’s like brushing your teeth; we do it because it’s already a habit, and we know there will be consequences if we don’t do it. So if you want to improve something in your life, you simply have to get off your butt and start.

As you can probably guess, my changes happened overnight, without much contemplation. I planned what I wanted to do in the morning, starting with small steps so as not to burden myself too much at once. I set my alarm for 6:30, woke up with a grimace, and had coffee brought to me in bed by my husband. I’ll add a little anecdote here: ever since we started living together about 11 years ago, my husband has always brought me coffee in bed every single day – it’s adorable, right? I love him for that. I got dressed, did my workout, then took a shower, did my makeup, and got dressed. I repeated this process every day. After two weeks, I did an analysis because I noticed that I wasn’t achieving my intended goal. I analyzed my entire morning routine, and the problem was in my mindset, specifically the mistake I was making every evening. I had strong emotions accompanying thoughts like „I have to wake up in the morning, I definitely won’t want to, I need to get enough sleep, I have to go to bed now.” I was feeding my subconscious with these negative statements, and even though I managed to get up, the morning wasn’t ideal. I wrote down everything I wanted to do in the morning on a piece of paper in the evening. I read it twice and didn’t think about it anymore. Then I went to rest and relax with a book.

The next morning, I woke up at 5:00 and did exactly everything I had written down on the note. I drank half a glass of water and a small cup of coffee in bed – I do this in bed because it’s my moment with coffee. The next thing I do is make the bed – it allows me to maintain order and harmony throughout the day. Then I did my training and yoga for relaxation and good energy, the brushing I mentioned before, took a shower, and did my morning skincare routine. As for makeup, it depends on the day, as well as choosing my outfit and using my beloved gratitude journal that I have been keeping for 4 years. Then I have breakfast and sit down to work on the computer. The most important thing is that during this time, I have no contact with my phone, and I only start using it at the time I begin my work. If I have to be outside my home office that day, not much changes except that I take my breakfast in a container. From there, it all depends on how intense the day is and at what time I have my meal.

After two weeks of repeating this pattern, I developed this habit. It has become my everyday routine. It doesn’t matter if it’s a day off or a vacation, I always wake up at the same time and do exactly the same things I’ve established. The rest of the day depends on the plan, for example, if it’s a vacation.

This morning ritual gives me greater control over my day; there is no chaos, and every task is completed to 100% satisfaction. I have learned to plan each hour and even minute of my day better, allowing me to have enough time for everything and ensuring that any major project gets done. I am truly satisfied with this approach.

I believe discipline has played a significant role in my case, along with changing my mindset and creating the perfect morning routine that aligns with who I am. It should make me feel good and give me the conviction that it’s right for me.

Nothing will succeed if we force ourselves to do something. There needs to be flow and energy that we can feel. Even on days when I feel low and could easily say to myself, „I’ll take it easy today, I deserve a few extra minutes in bed,” that’s when my discipline comes into play. I’ve worked on understanding how it truly works and how everything is interconnected.Today, I can honestly say that I love mornings – I love my mornings and this ritual. Every evening, I can’t wait for it. It’s a time when I’m alone with myself and can focus solely on my needs and gather energy for the rest of the day. That’s why not using my phone from the moment I wake up doesn’t affect me or the rest of my day because I have control over my morning.

These are all my thoughts, my mistakes and lessons, and the work I’ve put into this whole process. Changing to new habits that are supposed to bring some benefit isn’t easy. And I’m glad that not everything comes easily because it allows us to test our determination to achieve a particular goal.

At the same time, it’s nice to smile at yourself in the mirror and say, „I’m proud of you again – well done.” It boosts self-esteem and gives confidence to work more on oneself and be in harmony with oneself.

So find your perfect morning and enjoy it – let it be yours, just the way you want it to be. But let it bring you joy and energy for the whole day.

See you next time xx
