During our two-week trip to Spain, Zarautz proudly held the second spot on our list. This charming coastal town in the Basque Country made a lasting impression on us in every way. Regardless of what you’re looking for during your travels, Zarautz has everything you could desire.
Zarautz, a picturesque seaside town, surprised us with its unique charm and diverse attractions. During our journey through Spain, Zarautz shone as a true gem, offering not only beautiful beaches but also a rich culture and local flavors. It’s a place where everyone, no matter their interests, will find something to enjoy—whether it’s scenic walks along the ocean or discovering Basque cuisine in local eateries. Zarautz will certainly remain in our memories as one of the most delightful places we visited.

The promenade in Zarautz is one of the most picturesque spots we had the chance to see. As we walked along the wooden planks, it felt like we were floating above the blue waves of the Atlantic. The beaches in Zarautz are incredible, stretching for several kilometers and offering plenty of space for relaxation and fun. However, it’s not just the beach lounging that makes Zarautz so special.
Zarautz is a true paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Thanks to its strategic location on the Atlantic coast, the town provides excellent conditions for surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing. The waves at Zarautz Beach are perfect for both beginners and experienced surfers, making it a popular spot among sports enthusiasts.
For those who prefer more tranquil water adventures, there are also courses and rental services for paddleboarding (SUP), allowing for a relaxing ride on calm waters. Diving lessons are often organized as well, providing opportunities to explore the underwater mysteries of the Atlantic.
But it’s not only athletes who will find something to enjoy—water sports lovers can also participate in local competitions and water-related festivals that take place throughout the year. Zarautz is a place that combines natural beauty with an active lifestyle, offering unforgettable experiences for every water sports enthusiast.
Zarautz is also where history meets modernity. Its charming streets are filled with traditional Basque taverns, where you can try local specialties like Pintxos—small bites that are a true treat for the taste buds. Additionally, the town offers numerous attractions for water sports enthusiasts, such as surfing, which is highly popular among visitors.
It’s also worth noting the local festivals and cultural events that add energy and color to this charming place. Zarautz is the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and cultural discovery.

In Zarautz, we also encountered exceptionally friendly people. Their hospitality and smiles made us feel right at home. The local community was very helpful and eager to share their favorite spots and interesting facts about the town.
We can’t forget the delicious croissants, which are a hallmark of Zarautz. These homemade treats are absolutely delightful and definitely worth trying during your stay in this charming town.
The architecture of Zarautz also captivated us. The streets are filled with charming buildings showcasing a distinctive style. As we wandered through the narrow alleys, we could admire the beautiful architectural details and experience the unique atmosphere of the town.
